3 Sole
The slightly concave underside of the hoof inside the white line, shielding the sensitive parts.

Where is it?
The whole underside of the hoof between the wall and the frog, seen when you lift the hoof.
What does it do?
The sole normally carries little weight and protects the coffin bone above it. Healthy sole horn flakes away a little so it does not build up too thick.
What to look for
A slightly concave, matte plate that can look dull grey to yellowish. Blue or red patches can point to bruising and deserve attention.
