Tail relaxed

What you see
The tail hangs loose along the hindquarters and at most swings softly with the movement or against flies.
What it can mean
- Relaxation and rest.
- A loose, swinging tail in movement fits a horse working through its back.
- Gentle side-to-side movement to chase away flies.
What this does not prove
A quiet tail is no proof of contentment on its own; it mainly says that little tension is running through the hindquarters at that moment. Read it together with the face and posture.
Read the combination and the context
Distinguish the soft chasing of flies from the sharp, repeated swishing of irritation or pain. A tail clamped down tight belongs instead with tension or cold.
