Metal curry comb
A metal curry comb is a curry comb with metal rings or teeth, mainly meant for cleaning brushes and sometimes for removing dead winter coat.
What is it for?
It pulls hair and dust out of other brushes and, during shedding, helps catch loose winter hair on smooth, fleshy areas.
Where on the horse?
Mostly off the horse, to drag brushes against; on the horse at most carefully on large, flat areas such as the neck and flank.
How do you use it?
You draw brushes across it to clear them of hair, or use it lightly and with care on thick winter coat.
What to watch for
Sources describe it as too hard for ordinary coat care and advise keeping it away from the legs, joints, face and thin skin.
