The inward-folded parts of the hoof wall along the frog that help support the heels.
Where is it?
On either side of the frog, where the wall turns inward at the heels toward the centre.
What does it do?
The bars strengthen the back of the hoof and help stop the heels from collapsing inward. They share in taking the load as the foot lands.
What to look for
Two firm ridges running forward from the heels alongside the frog.
