More about this marking

In identification leg markings are named by their highest point on the leg. The coronet is the lowest leg marking. Anatomical terms are more precise than lay terms, because registries do not always agree on the common names.

What is it often confused with?

  • Pastern

A pastern marking is white reaching to the top of the pastern, below the fetlock.

  • Sock

A sock is white reaching from the hoof to about halfway up the cannon.
