Anti-sweat rug
An anti-sweat rug helps a sweaty horse dry without chilling.
What is it for?
The anti-sweat rug lets sweat and moisture evaporate after work or in warm weather, so the horse dries without catching cold.
How is it made?
Traditionally an open, net-like rug that traps a layer of air; the modern version is often a thin fleece or technical mesh. It is about airflow and moisture-wicking, not insulation.
When do you use it?
After training or travel, while the horse cools down and dries. The old net is sometimes used under another rug.
What to watch for in the fit
Use the rug temporarily, while the horse dries under supervision.
Make sure the rug does not shift while the horse moves.
Remove the rug once the horse is dry.
Take care
A bare net alone gives little warmth and is not an outdoor rug. The terms anti-sweat rug, cooler and fleece overlap; look at the function rather than the name.
What is it confused with?

A cooler or fleece also wicks moisture but keeps some warmth; a classic anti-sweat rug barely does.
